Dome canopies are another type of outdoor canopy that can be used as a carport canopy. These canopies often come enclosed all around and have a roll-up front flap. While these dome, or rounded, outdoor canopies are typically used like a portable garage or carport, for storing regular and seasonal vehicles or used as a shed, these rounded canopy tents are used as portable horse shelters or run-in sheds, as well, and can be set up in any area where horses will be running and grazing.
A dome canopy has the same composition as an ordinary outdoor enclosed canopy. A dome canopy is made of a powder-coated or galvanized steel frame and is covered with a heavy-duty polyethylene canopy. The primary difference in this type of outdoor canopy is the structure – the frame is rounded and the polyethylene canopy extends from one side to the other. When used as a canopy shed, either at a smaller size or at an industrial size, the back is covered by a polyethylene canopy and the front is a roll-up canopy. In the case of a run-in shed for horses, the back canopy can be removed for horses to move in and out of the shed.
The primary benefit of this shape of outdoor canopy is holding up under a heavy snow fall. While a more angular canopy structure can still withstand several pounds of snow on its surface, the rounded shape of these canopy structures allows snow to fall off the surface easier and will take longer for the snow to accumulate on the surface. If you're in a colder climate with winters that see heavy snowfall and need a long-term, durable outdoor canopy to be used as a car or boat canopy or as a storage or work shed, a rounded or dome canopy would be the best long term investment.
