Party tent is a general term for outdoor structures that provide shade and typically serve as the centerpiece of the event. A party tent can be a wedding tent for an outdoor wedding, or several small outdoor party tents can be used for a carnival. A party tent can even be used for individual use including backyard and beach parties.

Party tents, however, vary in composition, with some larger party tents having a fire retardant tarp as a roof, while other party tents just using a polyester tarp. While all party tent structures are temporary and typically come down within one to two days of use, the type of tarp used for a party tent varies with the location. A carnival party tent, for example, should use a fire retardant tarp in case of excessive heat, especially if that small party tent is used at a food serving booth at a carnival. For a wedding tent, in which the party tent is simply providing shelter to the guests for an outdoor ceremony, the party tent can be the simply polyester structure. The rest of the party tent is a metal steel frame that can vary in size depending upon the use. A party tent used as a carnival booth is going to be smaller than a party tent used for a large outdoor wedding ceremony, for example.
