White tarps can be made as fire retardant poly tarps. These fire retardant tarps can be used for the same protection purposes as an ordinary polyethylene tarp and more, including protection from sun and static electricity and containment. As a specific type of tarp, white fire retardant tarps can have use as a construction tarp, a camping tarp, and a tarp shelter. Each fire retardant tarp, whether a white or silver poly tarp, needs to go through a two-part testing process before being certified as fire retardant. The highest standards for fire retardant tarps are those set by the California State Fire Marshall Certification, and all of the silver and white poly fire retardant tarps we carry meet these standards. Other certifications for our selection of fire retardant tarps include NFPA 701, CPA1 84-7, and California Title 19.
Fire retardant tarps are known as military tarps, but, for everyday use, they are useful on construction sites and camping – or in any location with fire or excessive heat and static electricity. On a construction site, a fire retardant tarp is used for its containment properties to keep heat inside from forced air heaters during winter. In terms of use at a camp site, a fire retardant tarp makes an effective tarp shelter in the rain. While tarps should be taken along to construct a shelter to protect the tent and area in front of the tent in case of rain, the poly tarps being used shouldn't catch on fire if a fire is built close to them.
